ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Mad Iris
Ela Hinatsu, Kaiya Rosie, Patrick Muldoon and Josh Pryce are Toronto band Mad Iris.
Their track Name Tag, released in May last year, was my introduction to this band. The music video starts with a rewinding VHS screen, the music skips, hisses and flutters in a way, once considered an annoyance but in this track feels nothing other than charming.

Mad Iris are far from the only band aiming for this sound and style, however few achieve a similar level of DIY perfection in sound and sentiment. A call back to 00s guitar bands, but for a generation that experienced it all years later via YouTube and $2 CD sections of their local thrift stores.
I’m not here to bang on about younger artists finding the music we grew up listening to though, I’m here to share my excitement for its reinvention. It's so sick that people are continuing to start bands that feel fresh especially right now when we are apparently at the precipice of “bands being back”.
Check out the video for their latest release ‘Daisy, Don’t Take My Baby’.
