Bye Bye Badman are back with 'Zero'
My introduction to Gila was through TRPP, a band where each of their members took on alter egos. They are Chi Chi Cliché, a Chinese-French woman who settled in South Korea, Furukawa Yukio, a Japanese man who runs a ramen restaurant, and Gila aka Elephant 999, a man of unknown nationality who even forgot his name. I first came across their music via the Shoegaze & Dreampop display at a record store in Hannam-dong Seoul. The purple album cover that I didn’t recognise sitting next to albums by Lana Del Rey and MBV. I had to look it up, I took a photo so I won't forget. I’ve been hooked ever since, picking up a copy from Gimbab Records before heading home.
After eagerly waiting for the next TRPP record, just when I thought the project had gone on hiatus for good I saw Chi Chi Cliché (more commonly known as Yoon Jiyoung) share this song on her story. Hearing solo/side projects and being able to hear the elements that a member brings to both projects is always really fun. A magical way of finding new music in an algorithmic world. I hope to catch them live next time I visit Seoul.
